Conservation and Education through Art

Trash to treasure.  Upcycling.  Repurposing.  What can you creatively reuse?  You’d be surprised.  Scrap4Art has everything you need to let your imagination run wild!

Scrap4Art supports arts, education, and conservation of resources by promoting the diversion of clean, usable materials from the solid waste stream to make them available for reuse in arts and education projects.

They are your “go to” place for creative reuse materials.  They operate a retail store offering arts and education supplies and materials at low or no cost to individuals, artists, and teachers.  Scrap4Art also conducts workshops for artists and students and prepares project kits for children for use at home, as well as materials and instruction for projects at community festivals.

A mostly volunteer-based organization, Scrap4Art employs a single individual for four days a month.  All other tasks – financial management, grant writing, marketing, and development of projects involving reclaimed materials – are fulfilled by volunteers.

Scrap4Art is the only local nonprofit whose mission is devoted to reducing waste and encouraging reuse and recycling to benefit arts and education.  They accept clean, usable materials from both businesses and individuals.  Things like buttons, corks, clean papers, and fabrics, as well as craft tools such as scissors and paint brushes, are always in demand.

During this past year, Scrap4Art has focused their efforts to meet community needs that developed as a result of the public health emergency.  Volunteers sewed masks using fabrics donated to the store; art projects were developed and made available to children to supplement online learning; and the store has issued a “heART challenge” utilizing reclaimed materials for the month of February.

So, what are you waiting for?  It’s time to get creative and learn more about Scrap4Art.
