Down Syndrome Association of Greater Toledo (DSAGT) was created in 1983 by a group of parents looking to educate others on the needs of individuals with Down syndrome. It has expanded to now serve over 450 families in Ohio and Southern Michigan.
DSAGT has numerous programs available for all ages. The Baby and Toddler Program meet once a month to work on speech and fine growth/motor skills. The Learning Program teaches young children speech, math, reading, and fine motor skills. Kids are tested before and after the program and there has been improvement in every child who has completed the program. Parents are taught skills on how to best teach their child with Down syndrome and create social connections with other parents. Teens are able to get involved through quarterly dances and life skill classes that are offered through DSAGT. Family events such as Spring and Holiday parties hosted by DSAGT are a way for all age groups to come together. “Hanna Fotsch, our Program Director, and I both share such a similar passion for helping the Down syndrome community and we are working hard to take DSAGT to the next level by improving our current programming and adding new ones as well as expanding our reach to our vast service area to make services and programs more accessible to all families with a loved one with Down syndrome. We’re really excited for this next chapter of the organization” said Krista Huff, Administrative Director at DSAGT.
DSAGT also offers a scholarship program for which they are very proud of for $100 to individuals with Down syndrome to be used to attend a camp or recreational, therapeutic or educational program of their choice.
